The Tanzania National Electronic Procurement System (TANePS) has been officially launched to provide efficiency and other improvements in the country’s public procurement processes.
The system was launched along with other government’s electronic systems by the Prime Minister, Majaliwa Kasim Majaliwa, in Dodoma recently.
Addressing the public during the event, the prime minister urged officials supervising use of the systems to ensure they meet expectations including fast service, reduced costs and a minimisation of corrupt practices.
“We should not use [these systems] to hinder government’s operations but rather to help improve provision of services,” said the premier.
Speaking earlier during the event, the Minister for Good Governance and Public Service, Capt. (Rt.) George Mkuchika, said the launch followed a two-day service provision during festivities that marked the annual Public Service Week.
Apart from TANePS, the minister said other systems included Government e-Payment Gateway, Birth and Death Registration, Telemedicine, e-Record and e-office.
He said the Government will continue to sensitize and build capacity to stakeholders including public institutions on the use and benefits of the systems.
TANePS facilitates the country’s public procurement and supports various public procurement procedures including user registration, tender notification, tender preparation and submission, online tender evaluation, contract awarding, creation and management of catalogue, creation and management of framework agreements and auctions and payments.
