The College was established by an Act of Parliament called \u201cThe College of African Wildlife Management Act, 1964\u201d. The Act provided for the creation of the Governing Body responsible for supervising the College. The composition of the original Governing Body was evidently regional in that all the three East African states (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) were represented. They have ever since remained active members of the Governing Body of the College. East African Common Services Organizations (EACSO) and the University of East Africa were also represented. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have also been members since the College\u2019s establishment. Others who have been members of the Governing Body, at different tenures include UNDP\/FAO, Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), East African Community (EAC), its membership ceased with the death of the organization in 1977, African Wildlife Leadership Foundation (AWLF) and the Organization of African Unity (OAU).<\/p>\n

BACHELOR\u00a0DEGREE IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT (NTA 7 & 8)<\/a><\/p>\n

Programme Objectives<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This Programme aims to produce wildlife professionals who are competent in both theoretical knowledge and field practical skills in wildlife management. In addition, the Programme aims to equip students with problem-solving skills that enable Bachelor Degree graduates to work in various environments at the wildlife management policy level.<\/p>\n

Target Students<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This programme is designed for higher level wildlife managers, researchers, and planners who will work within wildlife and natural resource management sectors, including government, NGOs, and private organizations and companies with interests in wildlife conservation and management.<\/p>\n

Programme Duration<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a three-year programme. It runs from October to June for each academic year.<\/p>\n

Training Methodology<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Training approaches include lectures, interactive structured lectures, directed and self-directed study, seminars, tutorials, student presentations, field and College-based practical training exercises. Students participate in safari modules and conduct a Research Project in the final year.<\/p>\n

Programme Assessment and Award<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Students must gain 360 credits to be eligible for the award of Bachelor Degree in Wildlife Management. These credits are gained through passing all assessed modules. In order to pass Bachelor Degree modules, a student must achieve a final course mark of not less than 40% (continuous assessment and final examination). In addition, a student must pass the final examination by at least 40%. Course work assessment is based on a mixture of practical exercises, written assignments, group and individual exercises, reports and examinations. Course continuous work assessment is 60% and the final examination is 40% of the final module mark, unless stated otherwise.\u00a0 If a student successfully completes the first two years of the program, but fails to complete the third year, then they will be awarded a National Higher Diploma (NTA 7) in Wildlife Management.<\/p>\n

Entry Qualifications<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

At least two principal passes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Agriculture, Nutrition, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Environment and \/ or related subjects\u00a0\u00a04.0\u00a0OR,\u00a0<\/strong>Minimum Second Class Ordinary Diploma in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Tourism, Fisheries, Agriculture, Livestock, Forest, Beekeeping or other related fields from institutions recognized by NACTE GPA 3.0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
