University of Zululand (UNIZULU) Accommodation and Residence Application<\/strong><\/p>\n

Student residences are a home-away-from-home where an environment conducive to learning is cultivated. Residences aim to create a healthy learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can co-exist and enjoy basic rights.<\/p>\n

Important notes<\/h5>\n
    \n
  • Accommodation in the university residences is not a right but a privilege;<\/li>\n
  • Each student will sign a declaration that will bind him\/her to the rules of the residences;<\/li>\n
  • Residents are financially responsible for payment of a full term\u2019s occupation irrespective of the date of occupation;<\/li>\n
  • A resident is supposed to occupy the room that he\/she is allocated failing which the room will be given to another deserving student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    Cancellation of accommodation<\/h5>\n
      \n
    • All cancellation of accommodation must be in writing and delivered to the respective warden;<\/li>\n
    • Retrospective cancellation of accommodation is discouraged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      Visitors<\/h5>\n
        \n
      • Non-residents are not allowed inside the residences;<\/li>\n
      • Residents must seek permission from residences and\/or security personnel if they have visitors;<\/li>\n
      • Resident found assisting non-residents to gain entrance into the residences will be charged accordingly;<\/li>\n
      • Damage to the university property is a serious offence;<\/li>\n
      • Resident\/s are warned against engaging in vandalism as he\/she shall be responsible for all repair or replacement costs;<\/li>\n
      • Residents must report breakages to the house committee member or sub-warden;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        Vandalism<\/h5>\n
          \n
        • Damage to the university property is a serious offence;<\/li>\n
        • Resident\/s are warned against engaging in vandalism as he\/she shall be responsible for all repair or replacement costs;<\/li>\n
        • Residents must report breakages to the House Committee Member or Sub-warden;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          Alcohol and drugs<\/h5>\n
            \n
          • Residents are warned that it is a serious offence to indulge in or be found in possession of drugs and\/or illegal substances;<\/li>\n
          • Consumption of alcohol in the corridors, rooms and public places is strictly prohibited;<\/li>\n
          • Residents found in possession and\/or dealing or indulging in drugs or illegal substances will be suspended from the residences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            Fire arms<\/h5>\n
              \n
            • Firearms must be handed in at the Protective Service Department (PSD) for safe-keeping;<\/li>\n
            • No fire-arm and\/or dangerous weapon shall be carried or displayed within the premises of the university including residences;<\/li>\n
            • Any fire-arm and\/or dangerous weapons found will be confiscated and kept at the PSD strong-room for a period not less than six months;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              Subletting\/squatting<\/h5>\n
                \n
              • Subletting\/squatting is strictly prohibited;<\/li>\n
              • Any non-resident found in the residences will be regarded as a squatter and will be subjected to disciplinary action;<\/li>\n
              • Any resident harbouring a squatter will be subjected to a fine of R500 payable within 30 days, failing which the offender will be suspended from the residences;<\/li>\n
              • If a resident is found harbouring a squatter for the second time, he\/she will be suspended from the residences. A disciplinary hearing may only follow after the suspension from the residence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                Compulsory quiet time<\/h5>\n

                Residents are advised that making noise disturbs other students at any time of the day. However, the compulsory quiet time is from 19h00-7h00.<\/p>\n

                Behaviour<\/h5>\n
                  \n
                • Good, principled behaviour is encouraged in residents;<\/li>\n
                • The use of vulgar language in the residences and university premises is prohibited and offenders will be dealt with accordingly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                  Conflict resolution<\/h5>\n
                    \n
                  • Residents are to report their respective challenges with (in with regards to residence) to their house committee representatives and the latter must try to solve the reported problem;<\/li>\n
                  • If the problem persists, then the intervention of the Sub-Warden will be sought;<\/li>\n
                  • It is only after the Sub-Warden has failed to resolve the problem that help shall be sought from the Warden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                    Private property<\/h5>\n

                    It is the responsibility of the students to keep their personal possessions safe.<\/p>\n

                    Bookings<\/h5>\n

                    All bookings for venues in the residences, excluding Lecture Halls 3 & 4, are to be made five workings days in advance. Forms are obtainable from the SSD offices. No meeting or event will be allowed without the formal booking.<\/p>\n
