NSFAS has been established to assist academically deserving and financially needy students to achieve academic goals at tertiary educational institutions in South Africa, with particular concern in overcoming barriers created by structural disadvantagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\"><strong>What does NSFAS offer?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<ul>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">The means to obtain a tertiary qualification<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Loans at low interest rates<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Loans without guarantees<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">A reasonable repayment plan<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/ul>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">NSFAS convert loan (s) to a Bursary. Up to 40% of the award may be converted into a bursary depending on your end of year results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<ul>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">If you pass all the courses for which you have registered, you qualify for a 40% bursary.<\/span><br \/>ns<\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">If you pass three quarters of the course, you qualify for a 30% bursary.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">If you pass half of the courses, you qualify for a 20% bursary.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">If you pass one quarter of the course, you qualify for a 10% bursary.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">If you pass none of the courses, you qualify for no bursary at all.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/ul>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\"><strong>What is a loan?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<ul>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">A loan is the money you borrow to cover tertiary studies.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">This loan has to be repaid.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/ul>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Who qualifies for a NSFAS loan?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">You can qualify for a NSFAS loan if you are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<ul>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">A South African citizen;<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Registered at a South African university or University of Technology;<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">An undergraduate, studying for a first tertiary educational qualification; or<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Studying for a second tertiary qualification, if this is necessary to practice in your chosen profession; (e.g. LLB or HDE)<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Able to demonstrate potential for academic success;<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">Financially needy;<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">You will, however, be expected to make your own family contribution towards the total costs of your studies.(EFC)<\/span><\/li>\n<p>n<\/ul>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<p data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">How much money do you get?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>n<\/p>\n<ul>n<\/p>\n<li data-raofz=\"15\"><span data-raofz=\"15\">There is a minimum award and a maximum award, which is determined annually by NSFAS.
