While it is very easy to fill up multiple pages with information and details about yourself, your hobbies, your qualifications and your goals, it is not always helpful to bombard your potential employer with excessive information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Although we have already looked at this topic, your many requests for help on the subject have led us to revisit it for you.\u00a0<span class=\"GRcorrect\">These answers to some<\/span>frequently asked questions may help you to tailor your CV to perfection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How long should my CV be?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The best possible length for a CV is one page. Why? Because that saves the potential employer having to turn over a page to search for info. It means that every important detail about you can be easily read simply by scrolling the eyes down a few inches. If you have many years of work experience or a long list of qualifications, a CV of up to two pages is acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Many job seekers are shocked to hear that this can make such a difference, but believe us, it really can.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What should I leave out?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The most important information is the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Personal details (including full name, contact numbers, email address, residential address, citizenship and ID number)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Experience (including length and date of employment, name of company and position)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Qualifications (including year of graduation, type of degree and institution)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">References (name, company, position and contact number)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If you are running out of space, things to leave out include hobbies, interests, school achievements and the like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>It still seems impossible to get my CV to one page. What can I do?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Make use of the space on the page by decreasing your margins and using the left, right and\u00a0<span class=\"GRcorrect\">centre<\/span>\u00a0of the page. Don\u2019t leave large spaces between every line. Don\u2019t write things out in full. Your potential employer is not likely to be an idiot. Rather than saying \u2018curriculum vitae of John Smith\u2019, just put your name at the top of the page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How do I make my CV reader friendly while remaining concise?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Use a sans serif text rather than a curly, complicated one. Make headings bold or a slightly darker shade than the rest of your text. Use 1.5 line spacing so that each line stands out clearly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>NB:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Make sure that you DO NOT label the document as simply \u2018CV\u2019. You want to offer\u00a0<span class=\"GRcorrect\">the basic information only<\/span>. Once you have won the interviewer over with your experience and qualifications, they may ask for more detail.
