{"id":6507,"date":"2023-05-30T09:47:34","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T09:47:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uptymes.com\/edu\/jb-marks-education-trust-fund-bursary-south-africa-2023-2024\/"},"modified":"2023-05-30T09:47:34","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T09:47:34","slug":"jb-marks-education-trust-fund-bursary-south-africa-2023-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uptymes.com\/edu\/jb-marks-education-trust-fund-bursary-south-africa-2023-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"JB Marks Education Trust Fund Bursary South Africa 2023\/2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_BURSARY_PROVIDER_%E2%80%93_JB_MARKS_EDUCATION_TRUST_FUND\"\/>ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER \u2013 JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>The JB Marks Education Trust Fund was formed in 1997 by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), as a means to address the need for empowering NUM members and dependents of NUM members, specifically those studying towards qualifications in the construction, mining and energy sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The Trust was named after John Beaver Marks, a South African activist and leader and strong believer in empowerment and emancipation for workers via education. The Trust\u2019s mission has always been to fund the educational expenses of its members and since its inception has funded over 1000 bursars and awarded over R280 million to more than 2000 beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the funding is received from the Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT) via Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) dividends.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_JB_MARKS_EDUCATION_TRUST_FUND_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_FIELDS_COVERED\"\/>ABOUT THE JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 FIELDS COVERED<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>JB Marks Education Trust Fund, in association with NUM, is inviting students to apply for their bursary award for the\u00a0<strong>2024 academic year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bursaries will be awarded for\u00a0<strong>undergraduate studies, for NUM members and their dependents (children or spouse)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, the JB Marks Education Trust Fund awards bursaries to NUM members and their dependents, for studies towards undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. Each year, around 200 bursaries are awarded for undergraduate studies and around 50 bursaries are awarded for postgraduate studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_JB_MARKS_EDUCATION_TRUST_FUND_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_COVERAGE_VALUE_SELECTION\"\/>ABOUT THE JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 COVERAGE VALUE &amp; SELECTION<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>The value of the bursary will be determined by 2 main factors: availability of funds and the students field of study.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will be contacted with an acceptance letter (via physical delivery, post or email), as well as to all NUM national branches. If you do not receive any correspondence or acceptance letter by 31 December 2023, and your name is not on the NUM regional list, regard your application as unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MORE_ABOUT_THE_JB_MARKS_EDUCATION_TRUST_FUND_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_T_CS\"\/>MORE ABOUT THE JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 T&amp;C\u2019S<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Please note the following terms and conditions before applying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The bursary award can NOT be used to pay off existing study loans or debts.<\/li>\n<li>If students drop out of their studies within the first 6 months, they will be required to pay back the bursary.<\/li>\n<li>If students change their course of study or their institution after the bursary has been awarded, the bursary will be immediately withdrawn.<\/li>\n<li>If students receive study funding from any other source, the bursary award will be cancelled and the student will be required to pay back the bursary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ELIGIBILITY_REQUIREMENTS_FOR_THE_JB_MARKS_EDUCATION_TRUST_FUND_BURSARY\"\/>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JB MARKS EDUCATION TRUST FUND BURSARY<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"UNDERGRADUATE_STUDENTS\"\/>UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You must be a NUM member OR a dependent of a NUM member (including children and spouses)<\/li>\n<li>You must be studying towards an undergraduate qualification<\/li>\n<li>You must be studying at a recognised and registered public tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology or College \u2013 students from private institutes will NOT be funded)<\/li>\n<li>You must NOT currently be in receipt of any other funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"POSTGRADUATE_STUDENTS\"\/>POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You must be a NUM members who has NOT been previously funded by the Trust<\/li>\n<li>You must have graduated from undergraduate studies within the last 2 years<\/li>\n<li>You must be studying within a critical
