Scholarship in Geoarchaeology September, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Background\"><\/span>Background<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A \u00a0three-\u00ad\u2010year \u00a0(2020 \u00a0\u2013 \u00a02023) \u00a0Volkswagen \u00a0Foundation \u00a0funded \u00a0project \u00a0entitled \u00a0\u2018<strong>Natural Catastrophes<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Human<\/strong> <strong>Coping<\/strong> <strong>Strategies<\/strong> <strong>along<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Eastern<\/strong> <strong>African<\/strong> <strong>Coast during<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>First<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Second<\/strong> <strong>Millennia<\/strong> <strong>AD\u2019<\/strong> is a multidisciplinary research project hosted in the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, College of Humanities, University of Dar es Salaam. The project seeks to recruit a full-\u00ad\u2010time PhD. student for 36 months \u00a0(three \u00a0years) \u00a0to \u00a0pursue \u00a0a \u00a0PhD. \u00a0in \u00a0<strong>Geoarchaeology<\/strong>\u2014that \u00a0is, \u00a0the \u00a0application \u00a0of methods of earth sciences (notably geology, geomorphology, hydrology, sedimentology, and geophysics) to archaeological problems. Research costs (both in the field and the laboratory) will be covered within the parent project.
