PMC\u2019s mines produce copper and byproducts, including precious metals from sulfuric acid; nickel sulfate; anode slimes; vermiculite and magnetite. In fact, their open cast mine is the widest man-made hole in Africa, at nearly 2 000 meters in width.<\/p>\n<p>Over and above the companies mining efforts, Palabora maintains subsidiaries in Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States for marketing vermiculite.<\/p>\n<p>The JSE listed company is headquartered in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, South Africa and is the countries sole producer of refined copper. 57% of the companies stock is owned by the Rio Tinto Group (international mining conglomerates); while 17% is owned by Anglo American PLC and the remaining 26% is a public float.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_FIELDS_COVERED_COVERAGE_VALUE_SERVICE_CONTRACT\"\/>ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 FIELDS COVERED, COVERAGE VALUE &amp; SERVICE CONTRACT<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Palabora have initiated a bursary programme to assist Engineering students with funding to pursue their tertiary studies. Bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chemical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Electrical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mining Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Metallurgical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition fees, accommodation at university residence (or accommodation allowance), personal allowance: R5 000 for university students &amp; R4 000 for university of technology students.<\/p>\n<p>Students will be required to undertake vacation work during university holidays, as specified by Palabora Mining.
