The mine has been operating since 1980, but was acquired by Vedanta Resources from Anglo American in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>BMM is currently comprised of a processing plant and 2 underground shafts (Swartberg Shafts and Deeps Shafts). The Swartberg shaft produces lead, copper and silver (as a by-product), while the Deeps shaft produces lead, copper, zinc and silver (as a by-product)<\/p>\n<p>BMM employs approximately 1500 staff members at their current operations. They are one of the biggest private sector employers within the Northern Cape, and around 80% of their employees are originally from the Northern Cape.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_FIELDS_COVERED_COVERAGE_VALUE_SERVICE_CONTRACT\"\/>ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 FIELDS COVERED, COVERAGE VALUE &amp; SERVICE CONTRACT<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Black Mountain bursaries will be awarded within the following Mining related fields of study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electrical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mining Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mine Survey<\/li>\n<li>Metallurgy<\/li>\n<li>Geology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a full bursary which covers ALL study related expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Once students have graduated, they must take up employment at Black Mountain \u2013 the service contract obligation includes one year of work for each year of funding received.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ELIGIBILITY_REQUIREMENTS\"\/>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>South African citizen<\/li>\n<li>Reside in areas surrounding the mine operation<\/li>\n<li>Completed Matric OR currently in Matric<\/li>\n<li>Studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study<\/li>\n<li>Studying or intend on studying full time at a recognised University or University of Technology in South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Proven financial need<\/li>\n<li>*Preference will be given to female students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HOW_TO_APPLY_FOR_THE_BURSARY\"\/>HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>You may apply in one of the following ways:<br \/>1) Online at:\u00a0<strong>http:\/\/cw.gradx.net\/<\/strong><br \/>(You will need to register an account and then login to complete your application.
