Figuring out whether your interview went well isn\u2019t always easy\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Although there can be obvious signs that you impressed the interviewer, others can be hard to gauge. But whether it\u2019s a sure-fire signal or a more subtle hint, there are many ways to tell whether an employer is seriously considering you.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve already covered\u00a0what to do when your interview goes badly\u00a0and\u00a0six reasons you didn\u2019t get the job, but here are eight signs your interview probably went well:<\/p>\n

    You have an actual conversation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If your interview felt more like a casual chat than a formal interrogation, your skills and experience probably aren\u2019t the only thing that clicked with the interviewer.<\/p>\n

    Not only does it show that you\u2019d fit in with their company culture, it also proves you\u2019d have a good working dynamic if you got the job.<\/p>\n

    So if you notice that your interview starts to focus less on the formalities, and more on what kind of films you like (see also: laughs at all your jokes) \u2013 you\u2019re probably doing well.<\/p>\n

      They give you positive affirmation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      This may seem obvious \u2013 but if you\u2019re focusing on getting your answers right, you might not be paying full attention to the interviewer\u2019s reactions. And trust us, they mean a lot.<\/p>\n

      Because whether it\u2019s through their body language or how they respond to your answers \u2013 you can often gauge how an interviewer feels about you just by looking at them. And if they\u2019re fully engaged and giving positive feedback \u2013 you can be sure you\u2019re on the right track.<\/p>\n

      Just beware of the tell-tale \u2018I\u2019m only here because I have to be\u2019 signs (e.g. uninterested silences, slouching, lack of eye contact, continuous clock watching).<\/p>\n

        They\u2019re making an effort to sell you the job<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Although every interviewer will talk about what the role is about \u2013 not everyone will make a real effort to spark your interest.<\/p>\n

        So if you notice the interviewer is giving you a detailed explanation of what the job entails (including exactly what \u2018you\u2019d\u2019\u00a0<\/em>be doing) \u2013 whilst listing the perks and benefits of working for them, you\u2019ve probably made a good impression.<\/p>\n

        It\u2019s an even better sign if they actively link back to how that matches your skills and interests. It means they want to make the position work for\u00a0you\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 not just any candidate.<\/p>\n

          They include you in their future<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          How can you tell if your (working) relationship has a future? They\u2019ll actually tell you where it\u2019s going.<\/p>\n

          If your interviewer talks about how they\u2019d use your expertise into their future projects, plans, and developments (and\/or brings in other members of the team to discuss) \u2013 it\u2019s likely that you\u2019re a top contender for the role.<\/p>\n

          Not only does it show that they can see you adding value by working there, it also means you\u2019ve made a good enough impression to actually\u00a0last.<\/em><\/p>\n

            They introduce you to the rest of the team<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            An invitation to meet the team is essentially a colleague trial run.<\/p>\n

            You\u2019ve impressed in the interview, and the recruiter wants to know if you\u2019ll interact well with the team before they make their final decision. So all you have to do is\u00a0keep impressing<\/em>, by being polite and friendly with everyone you meet.<\/p>\n

            This is also the perfect opportunity for you to get a feel of the working environment. Something as simple as a tour of the office or a chat with your potential colleagues can often be enough to figure out if a workplace is really right for you.<\/p>\n

              It runs over the scheduled time<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Let\u2019s face it \u2013 interviewers are busy people.<\/p>\n

              Amongst interviews, appointments, meetings, and general tasks \u2013 their free time is probably rare. This means that they have to stick to their schedules and allocated timeframes\u2026that is, unless it\u2019s worth it.<\/p>\n

              So if your interview runs over the scheduled running time, it\u2019s almost always a positive sign. Not only do they want to learn more about you, they also don\u2019t mind sacrificing their time for it.<\/p>\n

                They ask when you can start<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                The key to figuring out whether this question indicates your interview is going well is to focus on how it\u2019s delivered.<\/p>\n

                For example, if your interviewer quickly asks this in addition to a number of other generic questions \u2013 they\u2019re probably just going through the motions.<\/p>\n

                However, if they ask it alone, and follow up with other questions and comments about your availability \u2013 it could be a sign that they\u2019re considering employing you (and are willing to work around your schedule if necessary).<\/p>\n

                  You get invited to a second interview<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  Good news, they want to see you again.<\/p>\n

                  If you\u2019re invited to a second interview there and then, you can be sure you did a good job \u2013 especially if they ask you before the interview\u2019s even over.<\/p>\n

                  And although it might seem daunting to go through this process again, don\u2019t let nerves make you forget the positive. They\u00a0already<\/em>\u00a0like you \u2013 so just keep doing what you\u2019re doing, and you\u2019re bound to continue to impress.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n
