MUCE was established as a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) on the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0of September 2005 by upgrading the former Mkwawa High School, in response to the growing demand\u00a0of secondary school\u00a0teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Mkwawa High School was first established as an \u2018Ordinary\u2019 level school in 1959 and was called St. Michael and St. George\u2019s School respectively. In 1964 it became a High School and was officiated by the First President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. In 1977 it was converted into a teachers\u2019 college which offered Certificate and Diploma programmes in teacher education.
