The aim of the institute is to investigate social and economic conditions (including inequality, poverty) within the country and distribute the findings, as well as to encourage economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>SAIRR have been providing educational funding to disadvantaged South Africans since the year 1935. As of 1980, the Institute has awarded over R220 million in bursaries, which has been a significant contribution to economic empowerment within the country. Funding has been granted a cross a range of fields, including business and commerce; medicine, health sciences and dentistry; science and engineering; education; law and arts<\/p>\n<p>Among the over 3 500 students that have received funding, is the late Mr Nelson Mandela, who was granted a bursary in the late 1940s to the value of \u00a3120.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ABOUT_THE_BURSARY_PROGRAMME_%E2%80%93_FIELDS_COVERED\"\/>ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME \u2013 FIELDS COVERED<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>IRR bursaries will be awarded to students in\u00a0<strong>various fields of study<\/strong>, who are studying towards a\u00a0<strong>degree or diploma<\/strong>\u00a0qualification. Please note that postgraduate and Honours funding is not currently available.<\/p>\n<p>Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 30 September 2018 at the latest \u2013 if you do not receive any feedback by then, regard your application as unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ELIGIBILITY_REQUIREMENTS\"\/>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>South African citizen<\/li>\n<li>Completed Matric OR currently in Matric<\/li>\n<li>Studying or intend on studying towards a first degree\/ diploma qualification (NOT postgraduate studies)<\/li>\n<li>Studying or intend on studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution<\/li>\n<li>Proven financial need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HOW_TO_APPLY_FOR_THE_BURSARY\"\/>HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Applications must be done online at:\u00a0<strong>https:\/\/irr.org.za\/bursaries\/applying-for-a-bursary<\/strong><br \/>Applicants will be shortlisted and contacted by 30 September, where they will then be required to submit additional documentation.
