Morris Family Foundation Scholarship at CQ University in Australia 2020

CQ University in Australia invites applications for the Morris Family Foundation Scholarship for PhD Students in 2020.

This scholarship provides the opportunity for a successful candidate to conduct research on the topic of the integration of indigenous experiences/places/people into tourism. It is envisaged that research activities will be mostly conducted in North Queensland, Australia.

The proposed PhD research project will contribute to the agenda of CQUniversity’s Centre for Tourism and Regional Opportunities.  The focus of this applied and multidisciplinary research centre is on the intersection between tourism, resource activity, and regional development. The Centre’s research is organised into the following thematic areas:

  • Tourism development;
  • Indigenous development and cultural capital;
  • Regional communities and growth;
  • Natural assets and environment; and
  • Services industry innovation and work.

Worth of Award

  • Single scholarship providing three years funding totalling $92,318, as per the following schedule: $27,018 in Year 1; $27,400 in Year 2 and $27,900 in Year 3.
  • An additional $10,000 research support grant (over the three years) for research activities is provided.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for this scholarship the candidate must meet eligibility requirements for approval to enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy at CQUniversity.
  • Prospective applicants should consult the Research Higher Degrees Course Rules Policy and Procedure for further information about eligibility requirements for admission to CQUniversity.
  • Both domestic and international students are eligible to apply, however international students will need to meet immigration financial requirements or have already secured a scholarship to cover tuition fee (at international rate) from an outside funding agency and will need to provide documentary evidence into that effect with the application to be considered.
  • The candidate must be a full-time student to be based either at Cairns (preferable) or Townsville campus.
  • The candidate must not be receiving income from another source to support general living costs while undertaking the course of study, if that income is greater than 75 per cent of the Scholarship stipend rate.
  • Income unrelated to the course of study or income received for the course of study for not the purposes of supporting general living costs is not to be taken into account.
  • Applicants should have a degree in a field such as Tourism, Business, Marketing, Management or in another field of Social Sciences relevant to the topic of the sponsored PhD research project.

Applications are invited from candidates who are able to provide evidence of –

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, values and traditions;
  • Interest/knowledge/experience in the tourism industry, preferably in North Queensland, Australia;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and previous experience in conducting research using qualitative and quantitative methods;
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent communication skills.

The successful applicant will be expected to publish scientific and peer-reviewed papers related to their thesis during the period of candidature.

  • A letter of motivation describing your skills and research experience with specific responses to the Selection Criteria listed above;
  • A brief research proposal;
  • Your current resume, including certified academic transcripts, and a list of your previous publications and projects;
  • A list of three academic referees together with contact information.

Applicants will be invited to undertake an interview as part of the selection process.
