PhD Candidate in Urban Mental Health at University of Amsterdam in Netherlands 2020

Posted on June 24, 2022 by Edutymes

The University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands is inviting applications for the PhD Candidate in Urban Mental Health for the academic session.

The Centre for Urban Mental Health is a newly formed research priority area funded by the University of Amsterdam. The Centre aims to unravel new pathways to improve Urban Mental Health that takes into account the complexities and dynamics of mental health problems and mental health disorders in an urban environment.

Aging presents a major societal and scientific challenge that requires successful attempts to understand and improve resilience to increase healthy aging, which includes complex factors underlying mental and physical well-being and autonomy. Within UMH we have developed a highly ambitious program (called Active & Healthy Aging, or AHA) to address this challenge, and you can be part of making this ambition come true.

Through network analysis you will elucidate which (and how) factors (such as stress, cortisol, sleep, cognitive function) affect healthy aging and resilience to cope with (stressful) perturbations, with an additional focus on depression, anxiety and addiction in aging. Such networks will identify critical factors that determine well-being, which allows for prevention, effective intervention and policy making to ultimately increase healthy aging for individuals in the urban population, but also to help developing a healthier city. You will be involved in developing such interventions and in (human and/or animal) experimental work to unravel underlying mechanisms.
