In 2009, the premises on which the center is located was transferred from the Ministry of Health and Social Services to the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education tasked Namibia Training Authority to establish a vocational training center.
Nakayale Vocational Training Center started in August 2011 with 40 trainees and 5 trainers offering two trades, Hospitality & Tourism and Office Administration.
NVTC officially opened its doors in August 2011. The centre conducts its operations under the realm of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Act, No. 1 of 2008, which makes provision for the management and control of all state-owned vocational training centres to be devolved upon the Namibia Training Authority, until such time that these centres, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the NTA, are transformed into self-reliant vocational education and training providers.
